Students’ own explanations of meaningfulness in physical education (PE) are essential. In this project, students were encouraged to articulate and conceptualize their own ideas of meaningfulness. Findings include a set of meaningfulness maps conceptualized by secondary students that can direct the ‘what’ and ‘how’ in PE. These include concepts such as kindness, competition and quality education.
